NVVN Limited, a wholly Owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, a trading vertical extends beyond power and is working in Carbon Management Vertical to provide a complete bouquet of Power and Carbon Trading Solutions. Amidst India’s transition and commitment to going ahead and reducing its carbon footprint, NTPC Group plans to have 60 GW of green capacity by FY 32. It has registered its different Renewable Energy Projects in different carbon programmes available globally like CDM, VCS, GCC, ICR etc.

NVVN has a dedicated Carbon Management Group with a specific vision to position itself as the leading organisation to take up carbon management strategy of "NTPC and its subsidiaries" projects in a centralized and consolidated manner to synergise all business activities with sustainable development, particularly to address issues related to climate change risks and opportunities arising from carbon mitigation initiatives. The management has been active in engaging with national and international climate change stakeholders to ensure that the organisation have deeper insights of fast evolving domestic and international carbon markets i.e. voluntary and compliance.

Synopsis of NTPC Group Carbon Portfolio as on date:

  • 08 nos. of RE projects (108MW) registered under CDM program
  • 04 nos. of RE projects (610MW) registered under VCS program
  • 41 nos. of RE projects (10252MW) are under registration with GCC program
  • 04 nos. of projects (230MW floating solar, 600TPD WTE and 30 lacs Tree Plantations) are under registration with VCS program
  • 01 nos. Hydro project (800MW) is under registration with ICR program

Annual carbon emission reductions from above projects will result in generation of 30 million carbon credits.

We intend to pursue various types of projects in new technologies RE initiatives (Chart 1) and take them to suitable carbon mechanisms to register these projects under Article 6.2 and 6.4 of Paris Agreement or suitable Voluntary Market Mechanisms:
